FAQ: Safe Driving (WRRR) & LoCITY Training – Timings, Formats, and FORS Compliance

What is the Safe Driving (WRRR) module?

The Safe Driving module, also known as Work-Related Road Risk (WRRR), is designed to reduce collisions involving commercial vehicles. It covers defensive driving, vulnerable road user awareness, and managing common work-related road risks.

This training is suitable for both HGV and van drivers, and forms part of many companies’ compliance with FORS Silver requirements.

How can WRRR (Safe Driving) be delivered?

WRRR can be delivered in several formats:

  • As a 3.5-hour standalone module
  • As a 7-hour full-day course
  • Combined with LoCITY (another 3.5-hour module) to make up a full 7-hour day that ticks both FORS Silver and Gold boxes in a single session

Delivery Format Options:

  • 1 trainer to 12 delegates (1:12) – standard delivery
  • 2 trainers to 24 delegates (2:24) – efficient delivery when space allows

What is LoCITY training?

LoCITY is a 3.5-hour training module focused on:

  • Ultra-low and zero-emission vehicles
  • Fuel efficiency and environmental impact
  • Operating in clean air and low emission zones

LoCITY training is the required course for FORS Gold and can be delivered:

  • On its own as a 3.5-hour session
  • Alongside another 3.5-hour module (such as WRRR) to form a full Driver CPC day

Do these modules have to be Driver CPC accredited?

No. All modules:

  • Can be delivered as Driver CPC (DCPC) accredited training where required
  • Can also be delivered non-accredited, which is ideal for van drivers or non-CPC qualified roles

This flexibility allows employers to upskill all drivers – not just those subject to CPC regulations.

Is there still a Cycle Awareness option for WRRR?

Yes – there is an alternative Cycle Aware version of the Safe Driving (WRRR) module, which includes specific content on sharing road space with cyclists. This is suitable for up to 24 drivers per cohort, provided delivery space and trainer ratios meet requirements.
